This original knotwork design painting shows three seals intertwined with knotwork waves. The piece is an interpretation of the Irish story of three young women who were turned into seals by St. Brigit after they dove into Dublin Harbor to join their drowning fiancées. The young men had taken jobs as sailors to earn enough money to afford to marry. Their ship foundered in the grip of a storm on the day of their return and the three young women chose to join their lovers rather than remain single on the shore. According to legend, the lovers and their offspring could shed their seal's skins and come ashore as human, returning again to the sea so long as the skin remained safe and whole. The design also includes shells in the corners and spirals within the knotwork. This is the tenth mandala in the Celtic Mandala Series.
