This original knotwork design painting incorporates three Greenmen with a framework of autumn leafs. The Greenman is the guardian of the woods. He and his servant, Jack in the Green take on the task of whispering to the trees and flowers, telling them when spring has arrived as well as when winter approaches, thus safeguarding the health of the woods. The Greenman also punishes folks who are guilty of wanton destruction in the woods. Legend tells of an English lord who turned his pigs loose in an oak wood in Wales, despite the protests of the local people that the swine would root up the saplings. The following spring, the lord was found dead on the steps of his manor house with an arrow through his throat. The arrow was nocked with raven feathers. Notable, the raven is the messenger of the Greenman. The color of the oak leaves in this piece is based on the fall colors found in New England. This drawing also includes the dots around the outside of the design, a traditional Celtic art motif. This is the seventh mandala in the Celtic Mandala Series.
